ABOUT THE WORK

Made exclusively for FRIENDS of CAMPLE LINE, artist Bryony Rose has created a limited edition print, based on a preliminary drawing for her ceramic relief work Biting Point 2, which was included in her solo exhibition at Cample Line,  Loves Bites (29 June – 31 August 2025). In Biting Point 2, a sheep motif is endlessly repeated over what appears to be a field and the presence of a car door and a rolled-down window give a sense of moving through or stalling, a restlessness for what is ahead.

For the exhibition, Bryony drew upon her last summer spent in Dumfriesshire before moving to Glasgow aged 17, framed by memories of an ‘all consuming first love and the draining feeling of being at home and with my family at that time’. She has recalled: ‘The clegs were particularly intense that summer, biting my molescattered skin.’ Horseflies feature in the exhibition embedded in fleshy pink bites rendered as concentric raised circles in a series of sculptural ceramic reliefs.

Challenging the pastoral language of traditional decorative ceramics, Bryony tells semi-autobiographical stories of longing and restlessness that foreground the at times abrasive, repetitive and banal aspects of adolescent rural experience.
