Pilvi Takala’s short film The Committee features a group of eleven 8-12 year olds from the Eastside and Tredegar U13 Youth Club in Bow in London. In 2013 Takala was awarded the Emdash Award at Frieze Art Fair and decided to give a part of the prize money to this group of children to spend as they liked. The film allows us to explore their decision-making process through the eyes of the members of the group.
We are screening Moufida Fedhila’s Offside and The Crossing courtesy of VIDEONOMAD, an organisation based in Berlin dedicated to sharing and promoting the work of African artists and filmmakers. In Offside, children in Tunis are invited to write their dreams on their neighbourhood walls. Note the soundtrack taken from Jean Vigo’s wonderful 1934 classic Zero de Conduit.
