Katie Schwab returns to CAMPLE LINE on Sunday 23 August when she will be in conversation with Susan Mowatt about her current exhibition The warp and woof of my self and her wider practice.

Please join us for the opportunity to hear Katie talk about her work and about the exhibition she has brought together at Cample in the context of her wider practice. The conversation will touch on Katie’s longstanding interests in personal and social histories of craft, design and education, particularly in the post-war period. She has said: ‘My work always begins with textiles.’

Katie Schwab is based in Glasgow, and currently teaches at Edinburgh College of Art. She works with installation, textiles, sculpture and moving image to explore personal and social histories of craft, design, and education. Embedded in the communities and contexts in which she works, Schwab’s projects incorporate collaborative workshops, archival research and craft-based learning.

Recent exhibitions include British Art Show 9, Hayward Gallery Touring (2021-22), small wares, Vleeshal, Middelburg, The Netherlands (2021); Another Crossing, Artists Revisit the Mayflower Voyage, Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA, USA & The Box, Plymouth, UK (2021-22), A Working Building, The Gallery at Plymouth College of Art, Plymouth (2019) and This Interesting and Wonderful Factory, Clore Sky Studio Commission, Tate St Ives, St Ives (2018).

Susan Mowatt is an artist and lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art with a particular interest in weaving. She graduated in 1989 with a degree in Drawing and Painting from ECA and completed an MFA in Tapestry there in 1992. She also holds a PGCE. She is a director of West Barns Arts, an organisation that provides studio provision, exhibitions and educational activities in East Lothian, and runs Cadmium Lovebug, a venture campaigning for creativity, enabling access to art education in the community for children.
