A man in an olive green hat and jacket sitting in some dense woodland, showing a short toadstool and a long-stemmed mushroom to a grey-haired woman in front of him.

Discover a rich diversity of local fungi on a guided foraging walk through the woodlands around Cample, led by renowned foraging teacher and wild food expert Mark Williams.

We’ll begin at CAMPLE LINE with an informal introduction and a glass of homemade elderflower champagne, before car-sharing for a short 1-mile journey to nearby mixed woodland – a prime location for a wide variety of mushrooms at this time of year.

As we explore, Mark will guide us through the fascinating world of autumn fungi and hedgerow plants, sharing insights into:

  • Safe and accurate identification

  • Ecological roles and sustainability

  • Traditional and medicinal uses

  • Folklore and foraging ethics

  • Culinary tips, recipes, and preparation methods

After the walk, we’ll return to CAMPLE LINE to enjoy some freshly prepared wild mushroom stew, made with fungi foraged by Mark and any choice edibles we’ve found together. Served with a slice of sourdough bread and accompanied by pickles and other tasters, it’s a delicious and nourishing way to round off the day.

Expect:
Up to 1.5 miles of gentle walking through mixed woodland over approximately 3 hours. The route may include some off-track walking and areas that are muddy or uneven. Walking boots and waterproof outdoor clothing are recommended.
Email us if you’d like more details about the planned route.

Who it’s for:
Suitable for both novice and experienced foragers. Mark’s workshops are recommended for ages 12+, but please get in touch if you’d like to bring younger children, and we can advise based on the length and terrain of the walk.

→ Please let us know when booking if you have any access requirements, mobility issues, or relevant medical conditions.

Refreshments:
There will be food and drink tasters along the way. After the walk, participants will have the chance to cook and sample a selection of Galloway-foraged edible mushrooms, served with freshly baked sourdough bread and other nibbles/accompaniments.

Tea, coffee and light snacks will also be available at CAMPLE LINE.
→ Please let us know about any dietary requirements when booking.
