Exhibition tour: Keepsake
Sat 8 November, 2-3pm

An art piece from the exhibition, ‘Keepsake’ by Amalia Pica, is hung in the upper gallery, being viewed by a gallery visitor. It is roughly the size of a large beach towel, and is hung vertically. The backdrop is golden, and freeform patterns reminiscent of a child’s drawing are stitched on top in both black and coloured cotton and wool.

The earthenware sculpture, ‘Neither Land Nor Water’, by Sayan Chanda is a collection of forty pieces made to resemble mangrove tree roots which poke out from the water. They are arranged across salty earth in what appears to be a naturally occurring pattern, and rise from the ground like small stalagmites. They are roughly finger-sized and taper towards the top. In the background of the photograph, the roots of mangrove trees are visible.
